No matter how long you have smoked, or how much you smoke, quitting is possible. The most powerful ally you can have in your bid to become a non smoker is your own unconscious mind. Our unconscious minds basically runs our lives, because it controls our patterns of thoughts and repetitive behaviours.
Neuroscientists have shown that the conscious mind provides 5% or less of our daily conscious activity. What that really means is that our unconscious minds are running the show for 95% of the time. The unconscious mind operates at 40 million bits of data per second, whereas the conscious mind processes only 40 bits per second.
So the unconscious mind is much much more powerful than the conscious mind and it’s the unconscious that shapes how we live our lives.
Considering all this, it is fair to say that the smoking habit exists in the unconscious mind. For long-term success, the smoking addiction needs to be deconstructed. If the underlying subconscious programs aren’t dealt with, then success will probably be short lived.

In order for the smoking habit to be deconstructed, we must look at what is driving the need to smoke. Many of the common drivers are things such as
- Stress relief
- Time out
- Satisfy the urge
- Acceptance (being part of a group)
- Occasionally enjoyment
and in some instances, even appetite control.
Some of these drivers can be quite strong, that’s why willpower alone isn’t always enough. If you’ve tried to quit in the past, but found you lacked the willpower, or found yourself becoming irritable, or discovered that the cravings were too powerful, don’t give up hope.
Once the drivers are recognized, that simple recognition gives you more power to create the change you want.
Hypnotherapy can access the unconscious part of the mind that has been responsible for creating and running the smoking pattern. Through a series of therapeutic techniques, these patterns can be released. Then, newer more empowering patterns can be to installed into the unconscious mind.
These then become the basis of a newer, healthier, more powerful reality that doesn’t involve smoking.
